My 6 month old puppy(Jenny) got hit by a car last night. Took her to the Vet, he did an xray on her and her pelvis is shattered on one side and fractured on the other side. He said the best thing to do was take her home keep her comfortable and warm and bring her back in two weeks. After that he said surgery may be necessary. He gave me pain pills to give her but the poor thing is in a lot of pain. She can't even get up. Has any one went through this with there dog?
No, I haven't gone through it, but I feel bad for what happened. I'll say an xtra prayer for her. What's her name?
Young animals are extremely remarkable in their healing process. I really hope this works out for your family.

Our dog, Teency, was hit like that when she was about 10 months. It wasn't "as bad" as yours, I don't think. She had to be spayed due to the damage to her pelvis, but she recovered and lived to be 14. We DO miss her. GREAT dog!
We had a cat, Ofelia, get hit like that and shattered her pelvis in 1977...we decided to put her down as the vet said she could get well after the operation, but would never be able to jump or climb....tough decision , but we decided that a cat that wants to outdoors and cant run away , jump or climb away from dogs etc, is at too much risk...our German Shepherd ,who she shared a bed with , missed her greatly.
A dog healing after a hit like this is a different story

Ouch. Vet said it may heal ok without surgery? Hope she recovers ok.
Lost my sons(6-7 at time) favorite cat that way yrs ago. A lost kitten found my 8-9 yr old daughter waiting for the school bus. She ran back and tossed him inside say'n "take care of him!" My wifes like; WHAT, ANOTHER ANIMAL?! Turned out to be feral, so became our 2nd garage cat for about a year or so. Lived for a couple weeks after the hit. Although she rarely saw him, even my wife was upset. Was our 2nd pet back yard burial.
Had a dalmatian that was hit by a car and both hips/pelvis were shattered. Ended up in a cast after surgery unable to walk for 8 weeks (potty time was special) had metal pins in him. and he came through ok. Lived to be a very old Dalmatian, and only had hip problems right at the end.
I had a solid white Siberian husky get hit by a commercial van on a residential street. He was on his way to fix the train tracks, even though one block over was is a 45 mph street. The a$$ hole was going at least 50 mph and the speed limit was 25 mph. He killed my dog instantly.
We adopted our 50ish pound lab mix at 8 months old, the Humane Society said he was an owner surrender and did not tell us he was a runner.
He was hit by a car doing 50 (clipped him and flipped him) and he spent about two weeks not wanting to move and we figured he wasn't going to make it. We had to carry him out to do his business as he couldn't do the porch steps. One day he got up and acted like nothing happened and shows no lasting effects.
He didn't learn from it. He will still bolt out the door if given even a tenth of a chance and crosses the same highway at a dead run.
I hope your pup recovers fully.

Sorry to hear about your pup. Hope she gets well quick.
My daughter had to have our current dog, a 9yo Shih Tzu (got him as a pup). Two weeks ago we found out the dog is blind. It happened within 24 hrs. Now it seems he is loosing his hearing as well. We don't know what to do. The vet said he will adapt but he is not the same dog. All he does is sleep.
I was never a fan of small dogs. As a kid we had large dogs. This little guy was pretty cool though. He would retrieve anything you threw to him and catch articles out of the air. Very high strung. I miss the old pooch.
I just want to thank everyone for their encouraging words. We have a very special group of people on this site. Its really hard watching her like this, one minute i think we should have her put down to keep her from going through all this pain and then the next minute i think what if she ends up fine. AGAIN THANK YOU ALL
We wish you all the luck with the puppy. Sounds like a waiting game right now.
We got our Papillion about 4yrs ago and she was a runner from the get go. Fast, like a blur when the door was open. After chasing here down a couple of time when other people would come over and not think about the front door being open I built a secondary gate in front of the porch. She hasn't gotten out since. It would kill us if something happened to her. Kid's are grown and gone so she gets all the love. Well, she gives some too.
