I am looking for a -69 convertible, should be complete and rolling, would prefer a 400 with floor console it does not matter if it is manual or auto trans, but must have a clear title.
I have given my self a max limit of 4000 USD and I will take care of pick up and shipping.
Ohh I am a Norwegian guy, I am soon done with my -73 Eldo and need a new project for the next couple of years, I usually do frame of resterautions, that is also why I do not want to buy a 8-10,000 USD car since I think the parts and labor would be simular to a 4000 USD car.
Please check out my feedbacks at Ebay, Username "Loffen"
If you are looking for a $4000 convertible, that's about what you are going to get. You won't be able to do a frame off restoration, there is not enough there to do it. You'll be ordering all the sheet metal and building up from scratch, or ordering a Dynacorn body.
If you are only looking for the documents in order to build a different car, your budget is about right.
If you are looking for a car to restore, don't buy anything until you have at least twice that to spend. Then you will at least have something to work with if you shop well. If I was going to go through the trouble of shipping it overseas, I'd take the time and money to find a good car rather than be disappointed with 3000 pounds of rust and useless parts.

I will be ordering most of the sheet metal and building up from scrath..
I have been restoring cars for the last 20 years and I know the cost, and yes my budget is high enough.
As I did mention in my first post so is there not much difference in restoring a 4000 or a 8000 USD car, sure it it will be cheaper to buy only the RH rear floor panel, but it will not take longer time to change the complete floor pan...
A rusted up complete original car has a much better value to me than a half good 6 owners wrenched from here to where ever car.
By the way Vikki, I did take a look at your -68, I do not know what you paid for it but there was some rust on it right ?
And that is my point, if I save 4000 on a car I can use the 4000 on new rust free panels or used parts that are really good, I belive that I will be better of in the end that way.
And of all the cars I have restored and including the ones I have seen being restored I have never seen a rust free car.
On the '68 I had to replace the rear wheel lips, trunk dropoffs, center of trunk floor, driver side toe pan, and upper dash due to skin rust.
Had to replace the tail pan and right quarter skin due to collision damage. We replaced the left skin in order to properly blast, repair and rustproof that area.
The car was lifted for blasting at a 45 degree angle by the front subframe. The doors still opened and closed, which is really good for a stripped convertible shell.
Although sheet metal is not that expensive, labor in fitting is. And the original stuff is better fit and quality, so I saved as much as possible.
The car in the photo is really, really rusty. I see a lot more than $4K worth of panels alone that are needed just to bring it up to a solid shell.
Sure, it's possible, but it won't be financially viable.

That is my point, if you restore a car it will be a lot of money and work anyways, for me it is a hobby, I have the time and I do everything my self except for the painting. My budget for the -69 is 20 K + the car.
Anyways, that car is over 5000 USD, why to much....
And I still want a -69 project, any one out there ?
4K for a 69' vert?.. Hmm... Im sorry, but Ill agree with Vikki, for that amount, dont expect much. The 69 vert Im now trying to sell for 15K (or a reasonable amount around that), was 6K alone all by itself when I got it a few years ago, and it was nothing more than a roller. No engine, no trans, no electrical, no interior..basically a California '69 shell from which to build a car. But compared to the typical rusted FBs, this thing was a great base from which to do a resto. Unless you want to replace every panel, floors, rockers, trunk, cowl, engine, trans, interior, electrical, etc, etc.. I think 4K for a vert is dreamingj...unless all you want is the title and paperwork.
Espen , please contact Hans Isaksen (in Sortland ) and or Knut Einarsen or Bjorn Kvandal (here on this site), they are all in Norway and may be able to help you with Firebird info..... If you want to contact them per email, send me an email to bsefeldt@mhinc.com and I`ll copy them on it in a return mail with your email,...
I had actually put things on hold until I have sold my other project that will be done in a couple of months.
But now the rust bucket has come back to Ebay, the high bidder did not pay... I thought it would go that way doe, a low feedback guy.. Have seen it before and will for sure see it again.
Anyways so did I place a couple of bids on it again, until a new low feedback guy started to place bids, I really do not know if I want to bid any more, get a bad feeling.

That is exactly what the fade black carpet in our car looked like.
Mine had faded like that too, they do in lots of sun....the carpet was in good shape though...I just spray painted mine black....it soaks right in ,and looks like new again...
Still can not open, maybe it is becouse I am in Norway ??
Ohh well, for the time being I still have the highest bid on the rust bucket, but I do not think I will win it, it will for sure come a low feedback dead beat and bid again...
24 hours left and still the high bidder on the rust bucket..
So I took the time to look at the other bidders so far, it got 21 bids from 8 bidders.
And as I am a little bit jumpy after some bad experiences on Ebay I did notice the following bidders.
The third highest has a feedback score of 50, he has placed 49 bids on 22 auctions the last 30 days and has 21 bid retractions the last 6 months !!
So the second highest bidder with a feedback score of 20 has in the last 30 days placed 27 bids on 14 auctions ( all cars )and have the highest bid on two of them, I did go through the auctions and both auctions with the highest bid is still running and he does still bid on other cars.
So ask your self if you would place bids on other cars when you have the highest bid all ready on another ? and what about the highest bid on two ??
Just have to add an update, the second highest bidder has now the highest bid on 3 cars !!
Then I am the owner of a 4050 USD 1969 Firebird 400 convertible Aka the "Rust bucket" :-)
It is in Houston TX and I will start on the job to export it to Norway soon, If there is any interest I can start a new tread that show the restauration process from start to finish.
no problem , waiting for Andy to go with me right now, we`ll have lunch a couple of blocks from it first...then go by there, then I need to run an errand, but should be back here in about 2,5 Hrs +-...
