I just did one side last hour with Meguires 7...very nice too, but I am going to try some of this stuff.

Which of their products did you use Bill? My paint is PPG Base-Clear....All I use the Meguires for is to deepen, polish and hide the light swirl marks..

I used the swirl and scratch remover from Meqires first last week. To strip all the grime away. Then I heard about Zanio. Then I got the Z-2 for clear coat paint. Since it was my first time I also got the ZFX additive accelerator. 3 coats of Z-2 finished up with the spritzer detailer.

Here's the side I tweaked up today, used some Menzerna Final polish and then Mequires 7. I am going to give Zaino a try tho...thanks for the info...going online now to find a local dealer.

Notice those nice newly sandblasted and painted rims laugh

Found a local Zaino rep...did you do 3 coats one after the other? Accelerator in all or just the last one.

I like Meguires, but it only lasts a few weeks as its not really a hardened finish, but its darned easy to apply and polish off...

Zaino Z-2 with the ZFX accelerator is all that my Mustang has known since it rolled off the assembly line on 9/15/05. I did the complete treatment with their clay bar the 1st time to get the rail dust off of it.

I just completed it's semi-annual re-apply a couple of weeks ago. The car is dark blue and the smooth reflections of the paint are out of this world. Still.

It's a no brainer that this is the only stuff my Firebird is going to see after it gets painted.

2006 Mustang V6 Pony, Vista Blue. Factory ordered.

Old projects, gone but not forgotten:

I'm calling the guy today to get some and will hold off on the work I started yesterday!

I am thinking blackwall out too....shows the rest of the car off better, the letters are to much "info" for the eye me thinks. Sh!t, I just had em remounted and balanced!

If I let my daughter run it around, the whole car would need replacing laugh

LOL LOL

We have a friend in our little Pontiac club, he owns a 71 LeMans 400/4-speed. The car is black and he also uses this product and it looks incredible. Funny story that fits in here. He had Craigers with white letter tires on the car for years. All the shows we went to together he never won anything. I sold him my Rally II's off the Firebird last year and he just put them on leaving blackwalls out. Went to a two day car show this past w/e and won a top 20 trophy. So he is now happy about the Rally II's and blackwalls out. We busted his "stones" for the past three years about his Craigers and white letters.

I'll see if I have a pic of his car just after using the Zanio, it looks AMAZING!

This stuff sounds(and looks) like good sh!t. Is it applied with a power buffer or by hand? How many different steps? Clay Bar first then start with the Zaino?

by hand...one directional, no swirling...just front to back strokes....clay bar may be good first ,dep on the current shape of 'trash' on the paint...I didnt as my first Zaino was 2 yrs after new paint...

Same here Bjorn, but I may just try them out for this year...., I always get 3rd in class in the local Pontiac show...I thought it may be because I do not belong to the club that puts it on (always seems to be club members taking the top prizes even tho I think I am at least 2nd!)..Maybe its the tires...mmm we shall see laugh

My car's 1980's lacquer lives by Zaino. When I got it, it had a normal wax job complete with swirls. After a wash with Dawn and a good claybar job, the paint looked every bit of its 25 years. If not for the chips and scrapes you would never know how old and tired the paint is, Zaino really brings it back.

It is even resistant to mulberry-filled bird droppings.

To the best of my knowledge, there is only one kind of lacquer, single stage. To make it worse, it is a repaint over factory lacquer, so there are some chips where it did not bond properly. Paint was applied in 1986 (maybe '84, I forget what the seller said) so I am happy with the way it looks today.

I'm just looking forward to the day when I can repaint my car. I bought it with what I would guess was the $99 paint job. It's got cracks all over it. I don't care how good the wax, polish is. As soon as the kids get their junk outta my garage, I'll go for a repaint. But that may be 20 years from now : (

If the car is a solid color, you can use a single part lacquer. Where you will have problems is where there the paint is metallic or pearl. If you compound the metallics the paint will look uneven/bloutchy, so they apply a clear over top. However, there is nothing that would prevent someone using a clear over a solid color lacquer. Just asking, because your car looks great.

Back in the 70's when I was painting cars and motorcycles in lacquer it was common practice to apply 2or 3 coats of clear lacquer over the color coat with wet sanding between coats to enhance the depth of the shine. When good acrylic enamel hardened clears came out we used to shoot a coat of clear Dupont Centari clear over lacquers for the cutomers that didn't want to pay for the final sanding and buffing. The lacquer was very easy to work with. You could correct any body work issues and recoat all in the same day. Follow up with the clear and you had a nice shiney durable paint job for a driver. Show paint was several coats of clear lacquer over color sanded and buffed.
