Trying to install the dash panel to the pad..looks like there are 4 plastic clips that need to insert into the pad..then the screws hold the instrument panel into place...according to the old parts book..it is part # 1373789 Section 10.252..any ideas where i can gets these clips....
All I can say is good f/luck! Without them, you're sol, if you're the kind of guy who likes it done right.
I don't know what insert/clip/retainer it was. (I think that it was a dash retainer, and other assorted parts, for the RWD Deville, Fleetwood--the full size--ones in the late 80's early 90's. Was the chebby the Caprice/Impala, the Pontiac, the Parisian (sp? you know me) I don't know what all of them were called. I only knew the cars as W905's, and I didn't need to know all the minor details.
Anyway, my solution was to take those clips, gently clamp them in a vice, and with a utility knife and lots of elbow grease, trimmed them to fit. When I installed them, they split. However, I was able to torque the screws well.
As my eplaination as to what clips I used, I have sfb and failed to think about the because I should have kifted a few. I'ts my best guess that if I take the dash back out, I'll need new clips.
Here's something else you may try. I don't know if it would work, but it's worth a try. Take an approiate sized speed clip and try to align it behind the metal structure. Use a big wad of dum-dum--strip caulk, the clay type stuff--to hold the speed clip in place. That might allow the slop you need to get all the screws aligned.
Every one of my clips crumbled when I removed the dash. Another alternative.....would be to mix up a little Dynaglass and paddle it into the holes, making sure to fill them welland try spreading it a little from the back side with your finger. Before it starts to harden wipe off any excess that might be visible once the dash is installed. When you get ready to install the dash, just line everything up, drill a small pilot hole on the far left then far right holes then install trim screws. Repeat for the remaining 2 holes.
As long as you don't over torque the trim screws and strip the holes it should work well for future removal and re-installation.
Dude, just go to Kragen or twilight zone or pep boys something like that and find a plastic insert that will fit in the hole. Took me about two or three trips before I got the right size but it aint that hard. Good luck.
No I don't remember but I may still have some left in a pack in the garage. I'll look around. I do remember them being white and square(not oblong like the orig).
