Has anyone used the aerosol can for splatter paint for the trunk as a do it yourself? If so, how does it look? I cannot imagine you can get a good look with an aerosol can.
I see Ames sells some for $8 for a 14oz can. How many cans would I need? They also sell clear coat for the splatter paint. Do I need to apply that over the splatter coat?
i did mine with spray cans from eastwood. i used 3 cans plus clear coat over the splatter paint. it is important to use a clear coat, the splatter paint is water based.
It comes out looking good. If there's rust, remove as much as possible of the loose stuff, then coat it with POR-15, followed by a layer of primer (within 8 hours, before the POR-15 cures), then splatter paint, let dry a couple of days, then the clear coat.
This is a project I need to do as well. Did you use a rattle can of clear? If so what brand.
Was the splatter paint sprayed everywhere? Taillights? Seat back? 1/4 panels? Wheel wells?
I used a rattle can from Classic for the spatter paint...no idea what clear I bought, just something from O`Reillys...I did spray tail lights also, shouldnt have I hear...I think they werent spattered from factory....but what else I did (non factory) I used duct tape to close off the 'pocket' by the fender...lots fall in there (I found lots of stuiff uin there when I repaired rust there!), but to let it breathe I only went up a bit on the fender in the crevice, then left it open at top.... sorry the spatter doesnt show very well in the pics...but you get an idea on my pocket close off...I painted over that duct tape...
If you go to my gallery there are some pic of the trunk in my car. You can see what areas are covered in the splatter paint. the paint is original. Bjorn is correct, the lights were not painted.
