Will a 69 driveshaft fit a 68 bird? I beilive they are the same, I have someone looking for a shaft to fit a 68 coupe with a saginaw 3-speed, and I have one from a 69 but as he doesn't have an old one to measure, I want to make shure it will work before selling it to him.
Jeff, It depends on the transmission application. 68 and 69 Firebird drive shafts are the same if the transmissions are the same. I believe a Saginaw 3-speed drive shaft fits a 4-speed and a turbo 350. If you change the yoke it will fit a 400 turbo. Jim
The AMA specifications I have for the `68 suggests the following:
DRIVE UNITS - PROPELLER SHAFT
(Outer diameter X length X wall thickness)
Manual 3-speed, all engines, 2.75 x 49.96 x 0.65 Manual 4-speed, all engines, 2.75 x 49.96 x 0.65 Automatic 250 and 350 cu.in, 2.75 x 49.96 x 0.65 Automatic TH, 400 cu in 2.75 x 49.30 x 0.65
PS: Does anyone know if there's a copyright on these AMA spec's? If not, would there be a place on this website to store them for public access if I scanned the pages?
AMA specs are already on this site for all 3 years. go to the home page, and pick a year. go to that page, and you can click on AMA specs. '67 is a pdf file.
