My wife drives a 2009 Nissan Altima 2.5. About one month ago her check engine light came on. We brought it to the dealer for servicing. It threw a code which told them that the 3rd cylinder has misfired. It's now been back and forth to the dealer a total of 4 times and they still have her car. Here is what they have done...

1st visit - replace head gasket
2nd visit - swap coils between cylinder 3 and 4
3rd visit - Replace fuel injector for 3rd cylinder
4th visit - They gave up and called their Nissan tech support. They are telling me that they now think it's carbon build up in the intake. Their solution is to run fuel injector cleaner through it. They still have it while they monitor the results.

What typically happens is we get the car back, drive it for 5 - 7 days and then the light goes on again. When it does go on, the car does drive noticeably worse, it feels like she wants to die.

I looked into the IL lemon law and the guideline says it has to be in the first year or 12,000 miles. We have had her for just over 2 years now and 20,000 miles.

Does anyone know what recourse a consumer has? Sadly I purchased this car brand new. If I sold it or traded it in I would lose my butt opn it. I'm betting the Carfax records are going to show all of this as well.

It could be the dealer has poor technical staff. I would try to find another Nissa dealer to have a look. The better one's generally do not advertise because word of mouth keeps them busy.

If that does not work then run the car into the back of something big and heavy to drive something thru cyl #3.
