Took the bumpers off this weekned to have rechromed. Noticed the 400 grills have seen better days and wondered if anyone has bought the aftrmarket grills with hockey sticks and what they thought of them? Thoughts appreciated.
Doug, I believe you need to paint the new ones anyway, so if your originals are OK except for paint, you might as well just re-paint the ones you have. I believe the repops come all black.

I did paint them and repaired a few breaks two years ago. I actually plastic welded on two of the tabs that had broken off as well. When I took the bumper off this weekend there were a couple more breaks in the plastic. The rattle can paint job looked ok from 10 ft but now that I'm getting new chrome thinking the new parts are the way to go. also, one of my hockey sticks has some pitting. Thinking it's time for some fresh makeup
I think it might be Ames that states that the 400 grilles do not fit well with the original bumper. It's best to use the after market bumper with the new grilles.

Sounds good. Doug, after you get your original bumper replated, let me know and I'll even-up trade you for a new Tiawanese one!

That's a deal I cant pass up!! Funny... I didnt realize the originals were made in Canada and thought I already had aftermarket bumpers.
This is what I found in the Performanceyears.com catalog. Under the reproduction 67-68 bumper it states "Original grilles do not fit very well, reproduction grilles are recommended.

Dave, Took them to Denver Bumper, $341 each out the door. They straighten and grind/fill any dents. True tripple metal chrome job and they guarantee the bumpers. They do amazing work.
So I found a nice aftermarket pair of grilles painted the correct charcoal (argent) color for 68's. Heres a shot of one side (original repainted on top, new on bottom). I bought OER hockey sticks and they seem to be very nice quality. Bumpers should be ready next weekend, then the real test.
Nice work Doug. I can't wait to see how it all goes back together with the re-chromed bumper.
My offer still stands if it doesn't fit.
