I just purchased Wiscbirds 69 vert "Buffy" and I put out a request for bid on Uship, a web based transportation and shipping middleman I'm sure, anyway I got a bid of $1200.00 to bring her and all her parts. Has anyone ever used this service before? I am very nervous.
most transporters 'bid out' and it can be anyone they use, basically its all by " $ / mile" and whomever is close by on their route to pick up or deliver....I shipped a Triumph TR6 from WV last April to Houston , it was $750, its a small car...not much to be nervous about, make sure title or ownership papers are NOT with the car , but mailed separately w signature required delivery
You need to check on actual ship dates. when I was dealing with a shipping company a few years ago, they were going to pick my car up in March, ship it to an unknown warehouse where it was going to sit for up to two months until there was a truck heading to Minneapolis.
I switched companies after hearing that. I ended up with an enclosed truck going from Georgia to Mpls with a load of new Vipers. They had one spot open for my 'bird. It cost around $1250 back then. But it was door to door. They would not have messed with xtra parts and engines though...

If you have the time and the truck/trailer, you'll be better off getting it yourself. It will likely cost more, but you'll remember the trip for the rest of your life. When I bought my '67 in Ohio, my brother-in-law and I drove 29 hours straight round trip to pick it up. I remember about 20 of those hours, and I never slept! (passed out, yes, slept, no!)

I agree with 68pls400. It may cost you a bit more in cash and, of course, time, but I would opt to go get it yourself.
I did the same with a hood I purchased on Ebay that was "local pick-up only". Even with some much-appreciated assistance from a forum member to get it a bit closer to home for me, I still travelled 580 miles round trip this past weekend to avoid having a shipping company pack and ship it.

My brother shipped his motorcycle from Florida to Texas a few months ago. I was expecting a tractor trailer to come, but it was two guys in an F-250 with a 32 foot trailer. They took a couple boxes back for him, as well. I guess it all depends on who you get.
I would rather save my energy for the restoration, I think it would cost me more than $1200 to do the round trip.
I used uShip for 2 cars, a truck and a boat. They all came from different parts in the states. Worked out great. Make sure you check their feedback on uShip. I really wanted to drive one or more of the vehicles back but they were too far away to make it economical.
If you can afford the time & money go get it yourself, otherwise uShip it!

That is what I got...the bid is good though $1200. Now I just have to decide if thats what I want to do????? Put my new baby in someone elses hands???
Big sticker is does it run and can all parts be packed inside. Most shippers will not handle loose items or cars that won't run. Intercity is that way too, though it is open to interpretation as to whether the '68 could be considered "running". No brakes, shifter too worn to find a gear, would not start in January in Michigan after leaving Cali, with 25 year old gas in the tank to boot!
