My car has been sagging mighty bad for a long time. Some years back, I bought a set of rear springs for it.. multi leaf. How difficult of a job is this to do without a lift? Should I try it or bring it somewhere? Also, while I am at it, I am thinking of a new exhaust system. I see alot of nice dual systems out there...my car still has the original style with one sideways muffler. Any suggestions on a nice system for reasonable $. I would like to keep original manifolds, even though I know headers would add a nice sound.
you need lift to add in those leafs....well, maybe not NEED, but it really helps...
exhaust...I had Flowmasters 40 installed on mine w 2.5 inch pipes from the orig. exh manifold about 7 yrs ago....added in H pipe...no transverse muffler..it cost me $500 as a 'custom' system done at Meineke...headers will also give you 'hot start trouble' unless you change starter or get heat shield.
I did my leaf springs at home without using a floor jack and jackstands. It was not a difficult job...just be really carefull. Don't forget that you are dealing with springs and a heavy axle.
I think I'll bring my car to Bjorn for a new exhaust system. No one around here will touch it for under $800!
I'm a hobbyist. Not a professional. Don't be hatin'!
Leaf springs are not bad with a strong pair of floor jacks under the rear frame rails forward of the axle, a good pair of tire chocks, and a floor jack (under the differential). Break all bolts loose before lifting, and be sure to use penetrating oil a day or so ahead, especially on the front spring pocket bolts.

depends how much rust is there....we had a horrible time getting old leafs out on Evans 69 here in Houston...and we worked on a lift.....once out, no biggie to install new ones
I just changed my leaf springs and the only problem was the front bolts. Four of them had to be ground off. The nut on the retainer broke the weld and would spin freely. Other than that it is not too hard of a job with jack stands and a good floor jack. As mentioned above "be careful".
Lee, Glad to see that you survived the winter. I talked to Tony to see where he got his and he led me to an E-bay site. It was a place in IL. Total with shipping was $170. There was a stamp on them saying "made in India". I am assuming that it is Indiana and they just ran out of paint. Ride height seems to be right but they have only been on for 3 weeks. If you need more info let me know.
Regarding the exhaust system, you could go with Flowmaster's 17129 which is 2.5 with dual super 44 mufflers, H pipe, fits like a glove and I mean it. Installed one on my 68 Camaro last summer and just ordered one for my wife's 67 Firebird, gonna install it in a few weeks. $350 shipped to my door. Frank.
Hey Hank, I got a price on a set from Accurate Suspension (I think it was) in Appleton last fall at about $125 each, but haven't done anything about replacing mine yet.
Don't know on the TC show, my car is still in storage. May take weeks to dig it out of the snow if it doesn't warm up soon!
