Policy is coming up due and was thinking about a change, currently with JC Taylor, got quotes from Grundy and Hagerty, 226/year 30k value and 214/year 30k value. Any preferences, experience with claims on either?
Thanks!

Hagerty here, as well. No claims, and hopefully never any claims. Earlybird, on the other hand, could fill you in.

Hagerty on all three of my cars. Made a claim 2 years ago after being rearended by a Farmers car. Hagerty took care of it all. Only glitch was when I sent in the estimates I sent them to the wrong fax number(they have one for the business office and one for their claims dept). After I discovered the problem everything was cleared up in short time. I now have a local agent that covers my Hagerty policies. Much better. $550/yr full coverage on all three.

My friend who owns 14 classics (7-Pontiacs 7-Vettes) uses Hecock. The only reason, if you have a "collection" of cars, they offer a complete blanket policy unlike any other on the market. So, unless you have a collection of cars, Hagerty is a great company. Most important thing when dealing with classic auto ins. you need to be sure that your policy is an "AGREED UPON VALUE" policy and NOT, repeat NOT a "STATED VALUE".
My above mentioned friend is a classic car appraiser for more than 30 years now and has shown me exactly how stated value policies work and how the owner of said policy WILL get screwed in the event of a total loss. Same is true if you have your classic on your regular auto ins. policy regardless of what your agent tells you and that is a fact.
I've seen first hand the court cases my friend has been called into and also the results. He has been used as a paid witness/professional for both sides and can tell you story after story of folks like us who have been screwed time and time again by the ins. co. with policies other than "Agreed Upon Value".

I am just now looking at renewing our car insurance and have a question. Haggerty wants to add $576 to my 5 vehicle policy for a Michigan assesment. Grundy did not put in their quote.
Would this ever be a problem or is this another hidden Michigan business tax?

The Michigan Assessment is a pass through from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association and is set by them. There are some confusing comments out the trial lawyers about this issue. If you go straight to the source, http://www.michigancatastrophic.com/ "The 2010-2011 assessment is $143.09 per vehicle." Michigan has the most generous insurance laws for these types of claims. Much like the upcoming budget battle, who and what gets paid for should be a subject of much debate.

Every vehicle on an insurance policy will get hit with this. My recommendation is to get the maximum limits you can get for uninsured/underinsured motorist.

Looks like they have lower rates for historical vehicles. Not sure how yours are registered.

I've never heard of it. Passed in 1978? You would think if it was going to be a national program, it would have moved ahead by now.

Larry, when you do, ask them if they have an agent near you that you can hook up with. It would've been handy for me when I had a slight mis-communication issue over the tele. Would've saved me alot of aggrevation.

$59 for 2 historic cars for MCCA assessment for one year through Hagerty. Daily drivers are much more.
We initially got our Hagerty policy through our State Farm insurer, but now we contact Hagerty directly.

It was time for me to get my classic car insured and this thread convinced me that Hagerty is the insurance company to go with. I applied on line, then I had a phone interview (the final stage of my application). I was asked by the agent on where would I drive my car on a routine basis, and I told her "just on the weekends, occasionally to the golf course". They disapproved my application because of that. I guess it's because of erratic golf balls that may damage my car. They said, I can reapply after one year. So, let this be a lesson to everyone else. You do not have to disclose your trips to the golf courses. Now, I'm looking for a second best insurance company around. Has anyone have a feedback on "Classic Auto Insurance" out of indiana? The cost is about the same and the policy is for an "Agreed Value".

Last year I went looking around for better pricing but sort of knew I wasn't going to find it. Hagerty wanted somewhere around $500 plus for my car - yikes!. I have American Collector and have been with them since 98. My cost (before I changed it) was $198 per year. Full coverage with a $50 dedect. I changed the value of the car and now pay more.

Check with Grundy. I think they are pretty much on the same level with Hagerty. When I first applied for a policy with Hagerty they wanted a couple different angle shots of the car and one with the trunk open. I couldn't figure that one out until I figured out that they wanted to see if there was a fuel cell in there.

I skipped over the insurance companies that either didn't recognized the Pontiac OHC or had never heard of it.
