It seems to me now that the switch is operating "backwards", meaning under normal driving conditions the car seems stuck in kickdown mode. Attaching a volt meter to the switch shows that it's constantly getting voltage until you push the plunger in, then there is no voltage.
Does this seem right? Do I have a defective switch maybe?
Hey thanks for the confirmation that I'm not losing my marbles! OK, at least in regards to how this switch should work. I will check with them tomorrow and see if this is how it's supposed to work. I can't imagine it is. If it is, they should STOP selling these as replacement kickdown switches.
I have that exact switch and yours is definitely faulty. Hooked mine up and tested it with a voltmeter and it worked fine. Get a new switch from the seller. If not, I think those are readily available.
Thanks Mike, I'm glad to hear someone else has experience with that switch. I have emailed The Parts Place and will call them tomorrow. It's good to know someone else has that switch and it works.
It was certainly interesting driving the car like this! ROFL
That switch looks kinda familiar....ah yes, a stop lamp switch, in which case when it is depressed it opens the circuit(foot off pedal)and when it's released it completes the circuit(foot on pedal, lights on)
