Swapped the "rebuilt" tilt column into the bird on Sunday. Went in pretty easy and in no time I was putting the horn button on my new Grant wood steering wheel. Hooked the battery back up and tried the horn. Nothing. Took the column wiring connector apart and had no continuity from the pins to the horn button. Took the whole steering wheel assembly on and off 3 or 4 times trying to sort it out. Frustrating! Thought I had it. Hooked the battery up. Nothing. Put the tools down and walked away. Monday. Picked up a new horn relay from Nappa. Installed it, hooked the battery back up. Nothing. Some cursing followed. Got out the tester and again had no continuity from the horn button to the pins. Arg! More cursing. Again disasssembled the steering wheel/horn. Found that my "rebuilt" column did not have new wiring and inner switch assembly and the spring on the plunger was not pushing the plunger out all the way. Great! More cursing. Carefully got the switch out and replaced the spring with the one from my old column. Reassembled the whole thing for the umteenth time. Hooked up the batterry and pushed the button. Viola. The worst sounding horns in the world came to life! God I love this hobby....
I do have one question that may require me to take it all apart one more time. What position are the turn signal cancelling cams supposed to be in?
