Ok, so i have the 4 piston brakes on my 67 400 4 speed car. i ordered a rebuild kit and the seals and pistons were too small. I did some online investigation and found some other people who had the same problem. The rebuild kits have pistons sized 1 7/8 inches and mine are 2 1/16 inch bores. here is the link to the site i found the info on. Apparently i need chevelle caliper pistons and seals. was this just gm using whatever parts they had available at the time or has anyone else heard of this? how about the same year corvette or camaro 4 piston calipers? thay look the same to me, and as much as i wanted to keep my original calipers on my baby, i do want to drive it asap. thanks for the help, you guys really know your stuff here. here's the link http://www.camaros.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-148883.html oh yeah, i really don't want to just change to 69 setup, want to stay with mine. thanks
You may be one of the very few here with 4 piston brakes. Most cars had drums and many of us converted to single piston. The disc option was pretty expensive at the time.
I have a '68 4sp 400 w/front 4 piston disc 2 1/16. I picked up a rebuild seal kit from Ames Performance (p/n FR218KB)that was the right size. I believe they have the 2 1/16 pistons as well. I have run into an interesting situation with bleeding the front lines and it has to do with the master cylinder but I'll start a different thread.
