Hi I just pulled the steering box on my 69 Bird and discovered my center drag link was shot. I was surprised to find out how expensive a replacement was and that the Camaro link was different but much cheaper. The suspension parts seem to be different between Sixes and Eights also. My Firebird was originally a V8 car but I put an OHC 6 in it. What is different between the two suspensions and what other parts would have to be changed to use the Camaro drag link? Thanks--Brian
I just bought a center link for my 67 through Classic Industries, and they listed it for 67-69 F Body. Maybe the difference is the six cylinder? I got the part, and it is identical to the one on the car now.... As far as I know, the two suspensions (Camaro/Firebird) are identical as the front sub-frames are interchangeable.
1967 Firebird 400/4spd all numbers matching 1971 Camaro Pro ET Drag Car 1970 Camaro real Z-28 (needs everything) 1963 Impala 409 dual quad 4 spd 2003 Victory Vegas 2009 Pontiac G8 GT (My wife says I have a problem.....)
If you go to auto parts websites that have photos of the parts, the 69 Camaro drag link is a solid bar with 4 holes in it while the 69 Firebird link has 2 holes and 2 fittings that go into the pitman arm and idler arm. I can buy the Camaro drag link, pitman arm, and idler arm to change it over for less than the cost of the Firebird drag link. Basically I can replace 3 suspension parts for the price of one. I believe I will pick up the parts this weekend and see how they line up. Sorry to any purists out there but I'm on a tight budget and my Bird isn't very original anyway. It was originally a Gold car with V8 automatic and now has an OHC 6 with 5 spd and will not be Gold when I'm finished. Thanks
