Whenever I try to fill up my 68 bird at the gas station, either the gas pump keeps automatically stopping or else delivers the gas so fast it starts spraying back out.
Anyone have a similar issue and have any fix for it?
I have noticed a wide difference in gas pump delivery rates and sensitivity. I always fill both my Bird and GMC van manually at a rate slower/under the first "automatic" detent to avoid splash back and cutoff. My van (312,000 miles now) has never tollerated filling fast. It always makes me cringe when the gas kicks back on the van's filler and runs down on the hot tailpipe that sticks out directly under it.
Im so glad Im not the only one with this problem. I'm six and a half feet tall so I have to squat down to refuel but being the strapping young chap that I am it doesn't bother my back or knees. Chicks dig it.
I also have the same problem filling my 67, I did notice I'd have to fill slowly or tilt the handle in the fill tube til the pump stay's on. every pump is different so they fill in different postions for me, but I noticed most just match the fill tube tilt. That's what I do with my 67 bird.
do you only drive in town? I get 9 mpg in town, 14 hwy...but the only way to check it really is to fill up, drive about 100 miles or so...check mileage, fill up again...figure it out
I usually do a mix of city/hwy driving when I take it out. I probably do get better mileage than that on the hwy. I should try what you suggest some time and see what mileage I am really getting.
I agree too, but if/when on a longer trip it helps to be able to figure out how far you`ll go on almost a tank....on highways I count 14 mpg...or 175-180 mi to look for a gas station (max 200)...when we travelled to Estes Park last year it helped to know as we were several in a group...as not everybody gets the same....
My stock 400/400 gets around 10 MPG. Mosty rural driving with bouts of 65 MPH tossed in. That's why I don't need Bjorn's snow plow to hold the front end down.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Did your car come with 2.56 gears as std for a 400 HO Auto or did you order it that way?
It was standard ZB code for the engine, AC and Safe-T-Track. If I recall, there are charts in various documentation that has the applications and codes wrong.
