so forgot to put the picture of the dash, heater controls on photobucket, so they are there now. my dash does not have any a/c vents at all but it does say air on the heater controls. i suppose this could be an a/c car but it looks original on the firewall and the guy i bought it from had it in his garage for 10 years and the previous owner had it for 20 years and was a very old gentleman who kept the car original. whatya think?
No, wood grain is correct for '67. '68 had burlwood (like Jarett shows)

Your heater control panel and woodgrain center panel is exactly like the ones in my documented '67 non-a/c coupe.
Mine also says "air" which I believe opens up the vents to let air in without assistance from the blower fan.
However, my firewall does NOT have the 2 holes with rubber grommets your photos show ABOVE the heater core cover on the engine side.
My car WAS originally built for sale in California. The A.I.R bracket for the passenger side is similar to the support bracket for the power steering, but both are "hollowed" out so that they create a passage to the small freeze plug openings on the front of each OEM cylinder head to allow air to be "injected" just prior to the exhaust gasses exiting the cylinder heads. So the A.I.R pump bracket is more horizontal than the vertical one that your photos show.
I believe I will go with the opinion that your car had dealer installed A/C

Thanks for all the help guys, this is my first fgf, but i had never seen this bracket on one before. i guess i'll just go with assuming it was a dealer add on, remove the bracket and put rubber plugs in the firewall for now. I'd rather have it without a/c anyways. This car feels like it was ordered just for the power. It has no power options except power steering. Has manual front discs, 400, 4 speed. Dual traction bars and an old sun tach already installed by the column. Love it love it love it.
Your firewall cover is a non A/C cover. If you had A/C there would have been an evaporator "suitcase" where my square hole is and taking up a lot of room in the bay. That suitcase housed the evaporator core. By the looks of it, that cover has never been removed. To remove it requires the fender to come off. It's a lot of trouble to go thru OR more likely, just drill two holes and go. That is my opinion.
Maybe as other suggest it had an aftermarket system such as vintage air?
