Put My water pump on and when I tried to turn the shaft after it was installed I noticed that the impleler is rubbing against the plate (thing inserted when installing the water pump). What did I do wrong?

I am guessing either the two rubber gaskets that the plate sits in are not in far enough or the plate needs to be pressed into the holes more. Thougths?

Do a search on here for the diverter plates that's what it's rubbing on. They need to be "tweeked" so the gap is correct. Too much and you lose flow to little and they rub.

Why would it fit when it came off (previous water pump) but not now?

is the new waterpump the same as the old one? Maybe one has a stamped steel impeller and one cast.

My best come back would be because it can. Remove the pump set the plate gap on the bench and reinstall...Anyone remember the correct gap? I'm thinking .060

The Gap is 1/167th of an inch? Am I reading that right?
