I have a new headliner that needs to be installed, so I called around to a couple local upholstery shops to get quotes. One guy quoted me 6 hrs @ $60/hr, and another shop quoted me $175 flat.
Common sense says go with the $175 guy, but is there anything particularly unique about this job that he might be missing? I can understand a 20-30% price difference between shops, but not a 100% difference...
How much have others paid for this job?

It's not difficult to install so if the guy has done it before the lower price is fine.
I had a guy quote me $5k back in 1980. I did it myself!

5K for a headliner. Was it a buy one headliner at regular price, I'll throw in the car for free. In 1980, you could buy one heck of a used car for 5K.
I did it myself on a Mustang. Not that hard. I personally recommend pulling the windshield and backglass before attempting. Gives you opportunity to fix any rust issues plus the headline comes out looking better IMHO.
You might want to ask if the 6 hour job includes pulling glass.
