One of my neighbors has a '62 vette that has won tons of awards. One thing he mentioned to me was that he only uses water and a towel to clean the car, no soap.
Never heard of doing that. I always thought you needed soap to get the dirt off without it scratching the surface. Thoughts?
I'm been washing my two daily drivers with soap for the past couple years but it is the first time I've ever used soap on any vehicle I owned. I don't recall ever using soap on my '68 in 42 years.
I owned a 73 formula that was never washed in the 6 years I owned it. Cali duster and meguiers spray detailer is it... Air hose to blow dust out of cracks....
I would think it has to do with what kind of dirt or how dirty it is...just dust, you can get away with just water...grime, oily stuff...no way.......I use Meguiars soap all the time, but I never wax my bird....in 11 years it has gotten a Zaino job 5 times.....no wax, just polish!

I have used Meguiers spray detailer myself for small areas...I am guessing by your responses that that stuff is better to use than the soap and water...
guess thats not to use after a Cannonbird run...last year we drove from Houston to Estes Park, Co and back, about 2500 miles, in good weather, rain , hail etc...not sure Meguiars detailer would clean a car after such a trip.?

It is an ongoing personal experiment. I thought I would use some Kit with wax and one of those big soft car wash brushes on two of my vehicles to see, over a period of time, how well it cleaned and how the finish held up vs washing with water and a real sponge plus regular waxing.
One, a big full-size van, I found is just easier to wash and get clean with the big brush and soap. Since I stopped regularly waxing that vehicle years ago I don't fear stripping wax off it with soap. The other is the real experiment, a 2007 Pontiac.
I used the Zaino detail spray at the Pontiac show last Sunday for the first time. It was not that warm out (mid 60's or so) and I found it streaking.....?? Was hard to buff out....should I read the directions ?

First of all, you had better drive home right now and read the directions!
Second of all, when did you get a job??

Guess you needed to add some 'spit' to that spit-shine.
