After running my 68 w/ a 73 400 in it very hard the other day the accelerator pump quit working and the car would not idle until I turned the adjusting screws out 7 turns. Any ideas anyone?

The older accelerator pumps were black rubber and don't hold up well with today's gas. Replace with the blue colored ones (Viton). Which quadrajet model do you have? Numbers will be verticle on the driver side of carb main body.

did you check the drift pin in the accelerator pump pivot to be sure it didn't "drift" out? Manually actuate the pump?
The idle circuit and the accelerator pump circuit are not related. If the accelerator pump is bad, it should only affect acceleration, the car will feel like it fell on its face when you hit the gas pedal. More likely you picked up a little debris in the filter, in a jet, or in the needle/seat area.

Yes I did check out all visual parts, every thing moves correctly just no fuel from pump. Debris? always a possibility, I am running two filters, internal and external
