I had the problem of not having the right pulleys. for my 8 bolt water pump. the engine I bought had a 69 balancer with 8" 3 groove pulley. the water pump pulley was a 6", 2 3/8 deep. I originally put a 7/8 spacer behind the pulley to bring it out, but then the mechanical seal went out on the water pump. I thought here was my chance I went and bought a 11 bolt timing cover and water pump. Installed it everything going great until I went to put the water pump pulley on.
NOW it's off by a 1/2 the other way (not deep enough). The water pump is just shy of 4 1/2".
Does anyone know what I need for a pulley? the one I have is 481040XT.
I have the damper and pulley for 69 and later but I have the long snout pump for like a 72 and later big car. The car has power steering, no a/c. The water pump has a (72) stamped in it.
I had a 69 and later damper, crank pulley, and apparently an early (2 3/8" inch deep) water pump pulley. Do any cars with the later (longer) pumps have a 6" water pump pulley?
