Putting in a front suspension kit from PST, have the control arms out, any tips on getting the bushings and ball joints out?

67 service manual shows some specialized tools being used, other places I've read they just took it to a machine shop to have em pressed in.

To do the Ball joints just rent the tool from the auto parts store and use a 1/2 inch impact. The bushings are best pressed in, be sure to reassemble in the same manner as it came apart. You can use allthread and some washers and nuts. PITA though.

The only easy way is to have someone else do them but around here they get $20-$25 each to do. That adds up by the time you have all eight done. The bushings that is.

NAPA pressed the bushings back in for me. Just with them for pricing.

Thanks for the info guys. I know a machinist pretty well, think I'll have him press them in, save me the PITA.

Be CAREFUL with the lower control arm bushings.....The service manual states to use a special tool to insert in the lower arm so that the "ears" the bushing presses into dont bend under the force of the press. If those "ears" get bent installing the new bushings, the lower arm will never go back into the frame locations it needs to bolt to. I did not know this, and luckily the F-body guru I took mine to did, and he used the correct tool.

Thanks dans, I'll pass that to the machinist.

Side note to anyone that's got original rubber, might want to check that out. One drivers side bushing had no rubber at all, couple others were in pretty bad shape. At least 2 of the ball joints where shot, 1 tie rod end was loose, and a few other loose bolts where the a-frame mounts to the subframe. All on a car that drove pretty well.

Air chisel pushed mine right out, pushing the new in with my bench vice and different sockets and jigs to protect the arms took some time...
