I’m looking at aftermarket A/C systems and Vintage Air along with Classic Auto Air seem to be the big players with the specific kits ready to go. I’m leaning towards Vintage Air right now and it appears they have a sale going on. The only thing that won’t work with the kit as advertised is that my firewall is occupied and I would like to run the hoses thru the old blower motor hole. It’s a non a/c factory car and all the original parts are already removed. That being said I have no plans to take the fender off for the install. I did a search and did some reading but I wondered if anyone had anything else to add.
Danny , I had Vintage Air in my Austin Healey...system worked great...have 3 friends here that have it in their birds.....I have not heard anything negative yet.
I haven’t read anything particularly negative about either so that’s a good start. Vintage air has a new set up that doesn’t use cables and I really don’t know what to think about that. As far as I know the cables are reliable but maybe there is some advantage to the ‘fly by wire’ set up. I did learn a little more about the install from the downloads they have available. It looks like I just might be able to use their kit 'as is' since the lines I am concerned about exit pretty low on the fire wall. Anyway I am working on a list of questions so hopefully I can address everything when I give them a call. I also noticed that the 10% off add I saw is actually a dealer in MS and not Vintage air directly. Do any of those guys there have a local dealer ‘go to guy’? I’ll do the install but I’m looking for a deal on the kit. I know I need to get started on this as I want to have it ready for Fredericksburg so my girls will go.
I have Classic Auto Air. It blows cold! It frees up space under the hood. Etc...
The one negative I have, and supposedly they are changing this like Vintage did - is that you still use a cable to open/close your valve (for flow to the heater core). This seems to need adjusting now and then, and your control arms must be in good shape to pull it. I did hear they are going to a servo.

Ahh, so the servo is touted as better for that reason. I'm researching and since Vintage is in San Antonio I'm going to have to pay sales tax which is a whopping amount. I just got off the phone with Summit and they can get it for me at list price but no sales tax and about $12 to ship. Thats drop shipped from vintage. Starting to look pretty good.
Ok, well I pulled the trigger thru summit. I ended up with a yahoo on the phone and had to talk him through the order process based on my previous calls to summit and vintage. Hope I get the right kit and get it installed without issue. I know it will take me several days to install it but I work slow. It should arrive later next week. Wish me luck.
Danny... 1) it took my friend Stacy a couple of months! (he was too busy with other stuff too) 2)As he knew he was going at it a long time he didnt want to lose the instructions...he taped them with painters tape to the fender...DONT! after a long time ,when he removed it...half of that paint under it came off! the cause of his saga with repainting the car
Arrived yesterday! That was fast. Two big boxes and a smaller box. Definitely wont tape instructions to any painted surfaces. Probably get started Monday. Looks like a big job for sure.
it is a big job....I think you`ll find out that if you take off the passenger fender ,it eases things up.....glad to hear you wont tape anything to the car! lol
Dont say that, I have no plans to pull the fender!! I'll try hard to work around it. I have already removed all the original parts including the blower so I dont think there is anything behind the fender I need to get to. It appears anyway that all the work involved is under the dash and under the hood. We'll see.
Got 'em, thanks. Boy that looks like alot of work. I've got a month though. I am anxious to get started. I'd like to get it done asap, like in a week. Again, we'll see. I previously made and installed a block-off plate, it's painted with the firewall to match the car and as mentioned I already have a coil and an oil filter located on the firewall. But I took a look at va's block off plate and it has some threaded holes which I bet are used with the brackets for the evaporator so I might be time ahead to stip all my stuff off the firewall and start over.
Hi Quick68bird I bought my kit thru Frank at Prodigy Custom in FL,he sells a kit that lets u run the hoses thru the blower hole ,the hoses are mostly hidden away I had to pay an extra $60 on top to get that. Chris
Thanks christian, if I run into something with this kit that is just a no go with the lines at least I know where I can order another line kit that I know works.
