Kelly and I are heading to San Diego next week to visit our son John who is in the Navy. We are lucky enough to have been invited to take a day trip to sea aboard the destroyer USS Kidd. This is the ship our son is attached to. We are both really excited as neither of us has ever been to California and then to ride on the ship. Wow! Hopefully we will still be there when carrier(USS Stennis) strike group 7 will deploy and get to see John off. He will be gone from 6 to 9 months and we aren't even sure where they are going or when we will get to talk to him again.
Anyway I will be checking in from my Evo while we are gone.

Larry - You have to check out a place called SouthBeach in Ocean Beach at the end of Newport Ave - best fish tacos ever - try the Mahi or the Wahoo!! One of my favorites and a must-see for all of my San Diego visitors! They are nowhere near as gross as they sound!
An alternative (red meat) suggestion would be to have a burger at Rocky's in Pacific Beach, as seen in the movie Anchorman. Also a fantastic feast!
Learning as I go! Not stock, but doing as much as I can myself.
Thanks for the suggestions. I don't think fish tacos sound gross at all and both of those places are on our list. I am a huge mexican food fan and although I am sure SD has tons of mexican places, a reccomendation from a local would be appreciated.
My suggestions for SD are Sea Port Village (unique shopping), Balboa Park (great museums), a drink at the beach bar at the Hotel Del Coronado (you can't afford much else there), and perhaps a tour of the lighthouse at the end of the point near the Hotel Del (can't remember the name).
Also the Scripps Institute in La Jolla.
And if you are there at the right time, the annual Over The Line tournament at Ocean Beach is not to be missed. One of the wildest beach parties I have ever witnessed.
