Searching for input/suggestions for a good exhaust system for a 1969 firebird convertible powered by a freshly rebuilt 350 with mild cam, performer intake and a 4 barrel. This restoration is a driver with a turbo 350 automatic and 10 bolt rear end. Thanks to all for any information you may be able to offer.
I put a Gardner on ours and love it...nice rumble at idle but quiet on the highway...but you can do very well at a local muffler shop that does custom exhaust for half the price.
The factory configuration is a pair of smallish resonators under the floorboards, and a larger dual transverse crossflow muffler between the rear axle and gas tank, with two tailpipes exiting between the rear springs and quarter panels behind the rear wheels.
350 2bbl had single exhaust.

I purchased the Pypes system and it sucks. Didn't fit at all. A custom exhuast shop is the way to go. It might be that the Pypes systems have gotten better. I installed mine about 4-5 years ago. In the future I will only go to a exhuast shop for an install.
For that setup a compression bent 2.25" system with a H-pipe or X-pipe would be more than sufficient. If you can find someone to mandrel bend all the better, but not necessary unless you plan a larger engine in the future.
I have a 2.5" system with Goerlich Excelerator's. Jim Hand rates this as one of the best flowing mufflers around. Sounds good at idle, and when you hammer the pedal has a nice throaty sound. To me, the sound is just right.
