I have a dedicated cable line for my modem and router. Signal strength excellent. I have another cable line for 2 tv's and another line for a single TV. My laptop has been running painfully slow as of late and now TV #1 with box pixilates, freezes, loses sound, HD signal etc, while TV #2 on same split line is fine. This issue is particularly bad whenever I am surfing the internet...no downloading, just surfing. Again the computer on a dedicated line, split at box outside. And TV #2 unaffected by websurfing (no pixilation, loss of signal)
I run a program called ShaperProbe to see what signal levels are...and I get
DiffProbe beta release. October 2009. Build 1002. Shaper Detection Module.
The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.
Checking for traffic shapers:
Upstream: No shaper detected. Median received rate: 2725 Kbps.
Downstream: Measurement aborted due to high packet loss rate.
I contact Comcast...For like the umpteenth time in 3 years. This issue comes and goes. It is particularly bad when I am on my laptop. I have rebooted the box, have had a signal sent while online with Comcast, still the same problem. So I unplug cable box on TV #2 which is fine to swap it out with TV #1 and decide not to swap....now my problem is gone, no TV issues, internet is lightnig fast again...I did not reboot modem/router.
What gives?
Me pulling my har...if I had some...

No amplifier...Comcast came out last time (visit #10) and did signal tests on all 3 TV's and modem and all were within parameters. They charged me for the visit finding nothing wrong. Ha...funny.
This time I have video of this issue.
They replaced every line in the house, even the service line to house.
The only thing I did outside of Comcast tech recommendation was to unplug the box to #2 to swap with the bad one (but didn't do the swap) and now the issue is apparently resolved.
Only thing I can think of...By unplugging the box on the good TV but not swapping it reset that box solving the issue?

I have Comcast, no problems...a friend got comcast a few years ago...for "everything" including phone....everything went haywire! she got rid of comcast, all problems gone.... you might try another company?
I had similar signal issues and they installed an amplifier on the system, just a transformer looking thing plugged into an outlet with a cable coming out of it that splices into the house line. Works for me.
I used a transformer as well. It does not hurt anything. Split the cable IN at the source with one line to computer network and the other to TV network. That will maximize your Digital signal to your PC's.
They could have spliced your cable underground and not properly sealed it. If water gets into the splice the poor shorted out connection it will screw things up.
Consider having cable company run a new line from your common cable distribution box at the street (ground level box or pole). They can quickly install a temporary line and followup with a proper ground or pole installation. This is a common thing that is done here to fix poor reception.
Cable media was not originally designed for digital traffic. Twisted pair telephone wire is and is more liable.
Personally I hate cable companies more than the telco's (close second).
I use Satellite TV and ADSL from a Non-Telco company.

WideOpenWest came out and replaced our RG-6 with RG-11 from drop to house when we repeatedly reported pixellation and loss of signal on our OnDemand service, and low signal strength was measured at the service entrance. It's been awesome ever since.
We have about 150 feet of cable split to four TVs inside the house, so we use an amplifier in front of the splitter to the other three TVs.
