Hoping someone can help with hood alignment issues. I cannot seem to get the front of the hood low enough to match the front of the fenders with the latch. I am wondering if anyone has used shims on the core support where the fender bolts on to raise it. I have really had issues with this aftermarket hood. I can get it to align well but then it hits the cowl when it opens. As I move it forward I have other issues and cannot get the front of the hood down as far as I would like. Also how wide of a gap should there be between the fender and the bumper?
Can you give some background on what all has been replaced on the front end. Fenders, core support, etc. I just encountered an issue where a reproduction core support was used on a 68 and ran into a similar problem. The core support had to be be stretched from top to bottom due to it being too short and too wide.

I believe the core support to be new, came with the car but the previous owner had done some work on it and it looked too new. It has new GM fenders and an aftermarket hood. The hood line does not fit the fender line really well, 1/4 in high in the middle but I can live with it if I can get the front down. I put on new hinges and the back of the hood fits nicely to the fender, the hood has to be adjusted forward of the front of the fender about and 1/8 in to get it to not hit the cowl. again I can live with that too if I could just get it down to match the fender line.
Are you using new rubber cushions on each side of the hood? I know that is not the correct description for the part, but I am referring to the rubber piece that pushes into the fender of the car. The piece of rubber should be located close to the middle of the fender and is designed to cushion the hood when closed. I have encountered this piece of rubber being too thick, thus results in the hood not sitting down even with the fenders.
