Yes, they were an option for 1968. Code 412 for $6.24 back then. I have a set of NOS door edge guards available. I think there are a few of us with them.

. I have them for my coupe. I went to put them on my vert and noted the holes were not there in the door. Guess they drilled them @ installation.

Having to drill anything in the body tends to prevent me from adding some of the extra options that were available.
That's why it is always better to experiment on someone else's car. That way, when a mistake is made on yours, it is a whole new mistake and so you feel less dumb about it than making the mistake others have made already.

Good point! Lol
I used to tune my buddy's cars for a 6 pack. The more i worked on it the drunker i got. If i could not fix i'd tell "ooh well it's not my car, thanks for da beer!"

I just installed a pair of these on my LeMans. Personally, I think they are very cool due to the fact that they are VERY subtle. We should also clarify that we are talking about door edge guards that screw on to the door via small screws through the tabs not the "push on" crap that you can buy at the auto parts store. BIG difference between the factory "screw on" vs. aftermarket "push on"!
With the screw on type, they are not very noticeable when the door is closed. In fact, they are quite subtle. I think they are more impressive looking when the door is open.
Although it's hard to tell from the pic, but it looks to me the ones in the picture that is posted are aftermarket, push on type as they are quite noticeable and seem a lot longer than the factory screw on type. I may be wrong...
Here is a picture of the ones on my LeMans, I had them on our 68 Bird as well. A seldom seen, but yet another awesome option by Pontiac!

I couldn't agree with you more. I just wish yours was a convertible, it would give me a chance to test everything before getting back to work on mine.

That's why I requested on my parts for sale thread to contact me via email.
Last time I sold stuff I had offers coming in via PM, message and email. I don't have that much free time any more so just monitoring a single source is necessary.
I paid $325 when prices were up a couple years ago, I will sell for $175 which is what I saw the last few sets go for. Please email me at yellowbird@thefirstgensite.com with the subject Door Edge Guards and I'll email back photos.
