I know a lot fo you guys have experience removing and installing drip rail moldings. Anyone have any tips for re-installing over fresh paint? Do I need to sand the new paint off the drip rails or lubricate the rail moldings to get them to slip on easier?
don't sand the paint! rust will form. I will tackle that problem my self also. I think that soap and water and slowley rolling the trim over the edge will work. I do know that too much seam sealer at the joint will cause the part problems in setting correctly on the roof rail.
Drew, as you know i just ripped out all my mouldings recently to replace the vinyl roof. Tell me exactly which pieces you are concerned about and I'll give you fresh info and opinion.

I'm not concerned with the one that runs down the pilar or the corner piece, but the long drip rail molding that does from the upper corner of the window curves over the quarter window down the the bottom rear corner of the quarter window.
Hmmmmm, warm soapy water is a good idea.
I wasn't planning to strip them bare. they have por15 on them and then were top coated when the car was painted. When I tried to install the long piece it was cutting the paint off of the very edge.....but POR15 is still in tact. I ended up bending the long driverside and they all need polishing, so I am probably gona buy some new, but don't want to bend up the new ones!!!
Sorry Drew, those are the ONLY chrome mouldings one DOESN'T have to remove during a vinyl roof replacement! All other pieces have to come off. Sorry I can't help you with those specific ones, but they all (I think) use the same basic plastic/metal slide-on pieces. Once you get the old ones off its easy to see how you need to re-install them. Some are "fed" and some are snappies.
