well after a time off, i decited to do more work on my fb. just got my front and rear bumpers back from the crome shop and since then i was restoring the front grills. repaired the plastic and redeyed them. what a job but here are some results of the resto. i finally got the assembly on the bumper correct. you have to remove the entire front and assemble first. the trick on the rubber fillers is to let the bumper move foward and slip it in. this is tight fit but it will follow in place once its in. I used a oer bumper emblem. it looks pretty good i think. here are some photos to look at. headlite buckets can be adjusted and centered with the grills this way also.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Can you share what brackets are needed to mount the grilles in the bumper - I have seen one for the headlight retainers to the grille but not sure if it is correct.

Thanks - Clay

thanks. the grill mounts to the metal pan with 3 screws but bolt 2 on and leave the 3rd on closest to the fender out for the rubber. there is a z shaped bracket with a hole for a rubber bushing where the grill is inserted and then bolted to the bumper. here is a photo (not very clear ) for a example. its not the greatest pic but the bumper is mounted on now. hope this helps

i think its the same as the 68. just a plate that keeps it in line with the bumper gap.

I am in the electronic security industry and there are off set mounting plates that get shipped with electric strikes that don't get used most of the time. Turns out that by chance I had one at the house and it looked like it would work as the backing plate for the bumper emblem. The pre-drilled holes are even in the right place and the correct size. Anybody need something liek this let me know your e-mail address and I can shoot you a pic.

From what I remember they weren't very big. Maybe 1/2"x3/4". Simple enough to improvise.

They are but it was cool and surprising finding something that worked without having to start from scratch. You're selling that car aren't you?? Very nice.
