my 69 bird's windshield wipers won't work...
Just pushing the switch over to wipe will not do anything. If i "HOLD" the switch over to wipe it will wipe fine. Sometimes the wipers will not work at all. It's a real flaky switch

My guess is that the switch is corroded? I already checked the motor.

Is there anybody who can chime in and offer some advice. What I am thinking about doing is taking the switch and checking for corrosion and cleaning it up. Will I have to take off the dash to do that?

Replace the switch with new. Not sure about the 69's but the 67's you can reach up and touch it without having to pull the dash apart.

Nah, you don't have to pull the dash apart. Jumper 12 volts across the wiper motor to be sure it's okay - I'm sure it will be. Bad motors usually don't only occasionally work - they either work or they don't. Sounds like a bad switch to me too.

you can unbolt the dash and slide it back far enough to change the switch.it is not easy on the 69 birds.you will need a 1/4 inch socket to remove the screws.if you need a good switch,you can get a repo that dont look nothing like the original or buy a good used one.i have some here if you need one.

i unplugged the 3 pronged connector from the back of the windshield wiper switch.

I used a voltmeteter and all 3 leads had power. shouldn't one of them have no power?
