Hello, I was able to get my hands on a nice set of rally wheels from a 78 Trans Am. Does anybody think I would have a problem using them on my first gen with 4 wheel drums??? Also what do you think a good size for a bigger tire would be without rubbing??? Please let me know what you think. thank you. pictures are appreciated.

Rally wheels? Shouldn't a 78 Trans Am have come with snowflakes (or Honeycombs) neither of which will fit without putting in longer wheel studs. The 15x7 may fit but the 15x8 would probably rub.

You cannot put 15" wheels on these cars because they will rub. Let me rephrase it: I cannot put 15" on these cars because the tires will rub. If you want tires that rub--lots of people don't care--slam on whatever will turn by hand with the car is on stands and the wheels pointing in the line of travel.
I don't know what would fit on a 67, but on my 69 I run 215/60R15 all around without any rubbing. (I also ordered wheels with the correct back spacing.)

On my '67, I run 215/65R15 on the front and 235/60R15 in the back, but they rub. The fronts rub when I go towards full lock and the rears rub whenever I hit a sizeable pothole. The fronts also have a tendency to grab the chrome around my front wheelwells if I hit a bump while I'm turning (like going into a driveway). That being said, I believe my car has been lowered a tad. Not sure if it's just old springs or the PO did it on purpose. Could also be a backspacing problem. I like the look though. Everything tucks up underneath the fender wells. I can live with the occasional rub. I just have to be careful about it.
I'm running BFG 225/60R15 in the front and 255's in the back. No rubbing. These are on Cragar SS 15x7 rims. I did raise the rear with 2" added arch to the springs and new coil springs in the front. KYB gas shocks all around.
I have stock Pontiac Rally II's on my 67 with BFG 225/15/50's all the way around with out rubbing front or rear and no rubbing in front while turning. Stock backspacing is fine with stock 15" rally II's.
I have front disc and a Posi Disc rear from a T/A which is slightly wider and still have no rubbing issues.
You can go 17" or 18" and up to 9" wide with about 6" of back spacing in the rear and upto 8" wide in the front with about 5" - 5.5" of back spacing in the front (judging from what others have used) but there will be some front end turn rub...
And of course this all depends on each cars set up. (40 yr old stock suspension? New aftermarket lowered suspension? Disc brakes? Drum?, Wheel & tire combo etc...
There is a lot of information out there these days on this very subject. But with just the info I've seen here, a set of stock Rally II's on a 67 Bird should be no problem.
