i have working on my engine and noticed that there are some rocker arm tapping and think that the lifters are not pumping up. it really has no mileage on the engine possibly 4hrs total and i think that the lifters were not properly broken in. but just incase it is not. are there different pushrod lenghts for the 400ho then the 400? when i rebuilt it, the kit had some new rods so i used them without thinking that there might be a difference. thanks.

Dude, did you just answer your own post with a "what?"

Classic.

Just when you think there's no hope for a web community, someone confirms it.

6.625" is what I have in my 68 400HO motor. I recall someone stating there are two different lengths, but I have no knowledge.

You can buy pushrods in any length you desire. I'm not positive but I don't believe there was a different size for the 400 and the HO version. With an adjustable valvetrain you wouldn't have to worry about pushrod length unless you wanted to get the geometry right. Chances are your prob is not pushrod length anyway.

Was the cam and lifters in a kit from Summit? Just asking because I've heard a few others with lifter problems that came in their kits.
