I ordered some OER trunk weatherstripping, the high dollar, latex skin type. There was already some new weatherstripping installed but it was damaged. I compared the OER to the old, which I believe is Metro, also latex. Below are the pics of each.
The Metro compresses much easier than the OER, apparently because it is hollow. Funny thing is Metro says it is not an original reproduction even though it fits better! Is that correct? The original seals aren't hollow? The OER does has a small hollow area lined with a plastic or hard rubber liner.
Anyway, below are some pics of the two. The Metro is on the left. I also have pics of both seals with the two ways to install them. Anybody want to comment on what they think is the correct orientation? I'm also not sure if the small parts that stick out should be shoved in the groove or not. The Metro seems to fit better with them out.
The bottom picture is the correct postion. In addition to it being correct, it would seem that common sense would guide someone to see how the seal creates a dam.
Obviously, this isn't the case because I seldom see one intalled in the correct orentation. Not only have I seen most installed backwards, I have seen many installed upside down.
