Hi, I have a 1968 Firebird with bench seats. I'm sure this question has been asked before but how many '68 Firebirds came with these bench seats? What are they worth if I decided to sell them? Just so you all know, I am on the fence in getting rid of them, so that decision is far from being made. Thank you for any help you folks can provide!
Actually, it isn't an option; instead, it's standard equipment, the base model. Bucket sets are the option.
Because of PHS documentation acting as the gatekeeper, the bench seat is totally wortless to anyone other than someone who had a bench seat car because I cannot imagine anyone downgrading an option to a base model.
bench seat was not an option for convertibles.Buckets only.
Saw one in Colorado a few years ago and the owner mentioned that it came that way even though he knew it was not available. I tried to contact him later about it and never could seem to locate him. Would like to have seen the PHS.
According to my 67 sales brochure: "The thin profile bench seat is available in any of the Firebird coupes. The bench seat is extra cost but the rest of of the interior you're looking at comes standard." I would tend to believe this, as you would see a lot more benches floating around. I have only seen 2 or 3 in person in the last 20 years.
My 67 is a 269 black bench seat with auto trans with column shift. Anyone ever seen a front bench with a floor shifter??? I heard of one but never seen one.

not seen them in Firebirds , but Chrysler Valiant and its cousin Dodge Lancer had them in 1960-61, so it did exist in other brands

Only one i've seen was a 67 camaro w/a 4spd. There was a curved notch in the cushion.
The shifter has a curve to it, it is in reverse in the photo so it looks straight (its definately not original.) I believe the shifter was the same for all Firebirds (bench, bucket, w/ or wo/ console.) LeMans and GTO had different shifters based on bench or bucket.
NICE CAR!! You've given me some ideas about mine. I had a 350 2 barrel with a Powerglide in it originally, I might just want to convert it over to a 4 speed and keep the bench seat. Yours looks real nice! THANK YOU!
Gus - I wasn't so sure at first but I'm loving it as well. If you're refering to the seats being blue, they're actually black. The lighting in the photo is off. The car is Aegena Blue. Bench seats were only available in black and parchment.
Thanks nevetsg, I'd keep the bench it's not much worse at keeping you planted in the seat than the buckets.

I have some 69 headrests that look dark blue and could be black as well.
Bench seat would be cool as I could have the dog up front with me and mum and the cat with girls in the back.
