What is the correct finish on the round little muffler that sits along the side of the A/C compressor (1969 Firebird). I have seen both satin black and bare aluminum on restored cars, but I'm not sure how it looked originally.

I believe it is clear annodized aluminum or bare aluminum. My choice would be annodized for ease of cleaning and protection. Someone else may know for sure.

Thanks! Mine is painted black right now (by a previous owner apparently), but the paint has some scratches so I was thinking of repainting it since I have the compressor off the engine right now. I will instead try some paint stripper to see if I can get back to the original finish.

Ronny, I answered as a '68 owner. It might be good if you waited for an answer or two for '69s.

I looked back through my show picture files. I found a couple '69s and they both have aluminum but I cannot know the originality/accuracy.
