Got my car all back together after removing the timing cover. I had ordered a new fuel pump from Rock Auto, but it is not even close to correct. After searching around, I'm not finding this as an easy replacement. This link https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/Detail...mp;web_access=Y from Ames looks correct. But it is listed as 67 400 With AC. I do not have AC. What would be the difference? All of the other fuel pumps I find are the lower profile. Mine looks like the pic in the link, a good 2 inches high. my current fuel pump has the 3/8 fitting coming out the side and two other nipples on the bottom. One is fuel in, and the other is the vent line I think. The pump from Rock Auto only has fuel In and Out. Any tips on finding the correct pump? Is this pump from Ames a good fit? BTW my current pump was original I think, I've owned the car for 27 years, 60k original miles. It developed a leak probably when I torqued on the outlet line to the Carb. It seems to be leaking from the fitting, but under the fitting.
AC cars and 400's had a vent return. That pic in the link looks like a 70 or later pump (deep can style). I beleive 67-69 had the pump to carb fitting out the bottom of the pump and not out the side. Are you using the stock fuel line from pump to carb?
I just bought a new fuel line (pump to carb) from Echerts. Although it was not correct. I have many years of metal work experience, so I cut the line, heated it up, and bent it properly to fit. Everything in my car has worked out to be original, I assumed the fuel pump was also. I guess it could have been changed early on before I took over.
I'm hoping to get a definitive answer on what fuel pump to order. 67 400 - No AC. Currently have one that looks like the one in the link in the first post from AMES. I will order that one, unless someone has an opinion.
Thank you, that pump is almost identical to what I bought from Rock Auto, but it does not have the vent tube like the one you show. The problem with this one, is the threaded port that goes from Pump To Carb is 180 degrees off from my current pump. The fuel line would need to be reconfigured to get it over to that side.
I have been pleasantly surprised by what you can actually get through NAPA. Stuff I thought you would have to buy at a specialty place. You might just want to try them as well
