Interesting. It is filled on mine too. I guess it was just a part of a clean-up job when they put the paint on.
It's not a perfect job, so I can tell it's been done. I wasn't sure if it was that way originally or not.
Interesting you mention it being done that way on verts due to the body flexing. I was atributing mine showing a tiny crack near the window to the body flexing.
I don't believe it to be a repair, I believe it to be part of the mods to the car to make it what it is. This car is not intended to be faithful to the original. This is just one of many things that were changed on the car to make it "different". My biggest surprise is they didn't remove the drip rails.
Hey RobbieH, I am restoring a 67 vert and I have a 68 Camaro. The vert has no seam and the Camaro coupe does, but you know that now. My post is that your FB is the first one I have seen with "Z" stripes. I was thinking of putting those on my 67 vert but did not know how the "Firebird" community would like it. I know it is my car but for resale more than anything. So, how have other FB owners taken to your stripes, I like them. Could you send me a few pics of it to look at and think about it? Thanks EB
once when I had an Opel GT, my ex backed it into a concrete pole ,so we had to have the rear redone, fixed , painted...they did the same butcher job and filled the open seams, said :"it looks a lot better"....what they meant was: " it was a lot easier to do"
so ,those filled seams most likely means there was body work there for some reason ,and they just filled it...then matched other side if only one side needed work....just my 0.02
As long as the seam was filled with lead it should not be a problem. If they used bondo then get frame extenders to stiffen up the car because the twisting could make that seem crack.

I can't find any evidence of any repairs on the car. It seems to be all steel. There are parts off a different car, but as far as I can tell nothing has been repaired due to a crash or dent.
