Hopefully somebody can help diagnois a problem with my 68 FB Conv 350 that just started. My fuel guage just started registering all the way to the right of full (approx.3 o'clock ). Again this just started and I know that I have approx 1/2 of a tank of gas. Any ideas what can cause this...I did not find anything in the dianosis manual that sounded like this? Hope someone has run into this before.
When that happened to me, unfortunately it turned out to be my sending unit. But you should have the voltage tested between the sending unit and the gauge.
Empty. Was an old anti-theft trick. Potential thieves could not tell if the car had gas or not.

Mine never read empty when shut off, my earlier bird didn't read empty when it was off, likewise, with my 70 Impala, 64 Chevelle ss vert, my buddy's 67 Camaro, my brother's 65 chevy pu. My aunt/uncle's GM vehicles (my dad didn't do gm)
Also, if it is an anti theft trick, it's a new one, not an old one. When these vehicles were new, theives targeted specific vehicles, not wandering around looking at the amount of fuel
I am pretty sure all of my 'birds read the gas guage even with the keys out of the ignition. They do not read empty (unless they are indeed empty) when the car is turned off. Or the gauge simply 'remembers' how full as the key is turned off.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Yes, if I were going to steal gas I would break into the car, put a screw driver in the lock and force it into ACC and then read the gas gauge. Better to do that than just open the cap and drop a line it. lol (sarcastically)

Oops. Sometimes my secret Mustang side comes out. All 3 of my ponies including my current 2006 are/were that way.
My wife's Honda, my '94 Chevy truck and my 'Bird do show the gas level.
That's a Ford thing I guess, like 2 sided keys (in the past). My bad.
