Looking for some advice/experience re: a factory power antenna on my 69 convertible. Information under FAQ (body) about antenna placement states that the rectangular "key" cutout in the hole in the quarter panel should be oriented at about the 5 o'clock position when viewed from the rear of the car. When I look at my antenna assembly (removed from the car) the rectangular "key" seems to be just right of the 12 o'clock position when viewed with the whole assembly held as it should be mounted with the black plastic motor cover toward the front of the vehicle and mounting bracket towards the rear (taken from photos kindly provided by Vicky of her car's OEM antenna.
So my question is: can the upper part of the assembly be rotated, presumably after loosening/removing the six machine screws that hold the outer sleeve to the assembly? On a separate note, is there some kind of reduction gearing at the base of the shaft assembly, off the motor, which needs to be cleaned and lubricated for smooth/normal speed operation? My antenna goes up and down, but fairly slowly. I suspect that old dried lubricant in such a gear assembly may be the culprit.
