I would like reupholster my rear seat, but am unsure as to how to go about it. Should I buy a roll of foam, and what thickness? I would like to do more than just have the springs and some cotton backing to sit on.

I am going to attempt to put new covers on my rear seat this weekend. Don't plan on doing anything to the springs and padding.

I used some upholstery foam from a fabric store and burlap.I think i used the original foam on the back plus some new foam and just new foam on the seat as it was trash.

Cotton batting works well too.

Make sure you have hog rings/pliers, you'll need them.

I took my rear seat frame and old fill material to a local shop to get their opinion on whether to replace the foam and they said just to use it the way it was, which I did. It came out pretty good but after seeing how much better I like the front seats after I added some extra fibre-fill to them, I wish I would have added a bit of extra filler to the rear bench as well. maybe some of my pics from the job will help you.
