Just picked up a 99 Mercury Cougar V6 for my son. I went to move it yesterday and it started puking tranny fluid out of the tranny fill/dip stick tube. I never seen this before. Can someone tell me what this means? It only has 65K miles on it. Is the transmission toast? Thanks for any help.
My brother had the same thing happen. He was sitting in traffic for an extended period and the tranny puked up a little over 3 quarts of fluid. It was a very warm day. Found out the tranny cooler was plugged and this is how the new trannies relieve the pressure of fluid getting hot. Now that being said I don't know if this applies to you seeing his vehicle was a ford mini van. He got lucky because he did not try to drive it when this happened so the tranny was not toasted. That happened last summer and he has driven it every since with no issue. Hope this might help. Joe
It's not looking good. When this happened the car was cold. I was hoping that it was a one time deal. no such luck. I tried driving it and the tranny was slipping. I keep checking but the fluid wont go down. Lots of used tranny's out there but I think it would be tuff doing a swap on one. My bad luck I guess. The car is in great shape with only 65k on it but not worth the cost of fixing it. Thanks for the replys guys.
