Full story: Trans (car) has shuddered in 4th gear since I got it. I thought it was due to the wrong power valve, but that didn't resolve the problem. Went to a car show a few weeks ago, at first it would not shift to 4th, just hung in 3rd. After it warmed up it would go from 4th to 2nd with the slightest touch of the throttle. I thought I might have a kickdown cable issue, but never looked into it. I took the car to get it aligned just now and it has no 3rd gear at all. It shifts 1st, 2nd, NEUTRAL (no go). No matter what I do I can't get it to engage third, it just spins. 1st and 2nd are still strong.
Few yrs ago burned 3-4 on mine twice within 2 weeks. Think trans was hurt when i bought the car. Lasted 50-75 miles. But a wk or two later aftr rebuild(75-100 miles), same thing. Was 2 days before race wkend, so put in my old TH400/drvshft combo.
On 2nd tear down only problem could find the same was lip seal rolled on intermidiate apply piston. To much pressure? Bad housing? Didnt find anything there.
While put'n trans and stuff in storage under bench noticed cable had also been pinched at fire wall, but still moved freely(out of car).
Not sure if one/other/or both may of caused it?...
Let me know what u find. TH400 still in car cause to ascared to try again.
