Not sure of the exact gauge but you what larger than normal. About the size of the ground wire from battery to the fender if not thicker and must be braided (not solid core).

Thanks, I was actually thinking of just putting a 24" 6 ga battery wire on. Don't think overkill is a bad thing on this. Someone in the past wired the front lamp harness directly to the battery, after cutting out the link.
If my memory is correct I would say 12awg. 10awg at the most. I can look tonight.
You'll struggle using 6awg. That's pretty stiff even in braided copper.
General rule of thumb.
12 AWG - maximum of 25 Amps in free air, maximum of 20 Amps as part of a 3 conductor cable; 10 AWG - maximum of 40 Amps in free air, maximum of 30 Amps as part of a 3 conductor cable.
6awg you'd be able to run your range or dryer at 60amps
But down there in the desert heat, you might need that much amperage running that A/C at full power!
