while looking at my rear-end, I think something is amiss. I have the 3 1/4 inch ujoint, which sits inward from the edge of the yoke about 1/4 inch on each side. That seems odd, how does it get/stay centered? It is held onto the pinion yoke by threaded loops, not straps with bolts. On the driveshaft side, I have the funny looking c-clips that you can see on the end. I am trying to determine if I have the correct yoke, u-joint size, and driveshaft. Any/all of them could have been replaced at some point. Does anyone know the proper stuff? Or have a pic of the pinion yoke, etc.?
If i remeber correctly the cups that go into the pinion should have the inner c-clips installed also. the inner c-clips center th ujoint in the poinion.
Thanks for the replies. We are getting somewhere. The 3 1/4 inch ujoint is wrong for the rear. I ended getting the proper ujoint which is 3 5/8 inch. This one has 2 inside snap rings and 2 outside snap rings. I have the 2 inside snap ring cups on the pinion yoke. According to Gus's pictures, there are no outside snap rings at all. What gives? Unless the correct ujoint has all 4 inside snap rings instead of 2?
i can slide under my bird tomorrow, if i recall i had c-clips on the outside on the DS. The original rentetion was a ring of plastic that locked the cup in place. But i'll look for sure tomorow. The service manual says internal + internal. Making sure the open part of the C-clip is pointing at the pinion yoke.
