Didn't someone do a test of all the different new bulbs and even put up pictures to show the difference?? Can't find it, searched everywhere can anyone help ??
I have been contemplating switching most of my bulbs over to LED's since getting led strip lights 12v LED strip Manufacturer led spotlight tail lights, and now after reading all of this, I am determined to do it. Now I just need to figure out exactly which lights to use for each area. I dont think I am going to paint the inner area of my gauge assembly blue (although I have to admit, thats looks amazing) so I guess I need to know which LED's work best for stock use.
I have been running LED lights in my dash, hood tack, dome, under dash, turn signal, and marker lights for about 7 years now. I had an issue seeing the original gauage lights at night. For the gauges, I use green led's and have black faced gauges. Also, 7 years ago I made some LED taillights (before they were available for our car). Acutually built circuits on circuit board and actually had them sequence for turn signals. The issue is the sequencer I used needed the load of the incandecent, so I would have had to add dummy loads. I made it work, but never put it in the car. But for the rest of the lights, they sure did make a difference. Of course, you can't dim them, but my issue before of not being able to see them is gone!
I know that washing and waxing my car with the present condtion of my paint is like polishing a turd.....but it's my turd and I want it polished!
Pic of dash lights (I want to add a second bulb to the heater control for balance)
Pic of tailights. Each of the segments of red LEDs is broke up into 3 seperate circuits. So circuit 1 would be the right most third of each upper and lower segment, then the middle third, and the left most third. They would stage from inside out. All lights were powered up for the photo.

I have the same problem where the I can read the speedo and fuel gauges at night but they are not very bright. I just installed new aftermarket tach and other gauges which do look great at night but unfortunately they make the other stuff look even more noticeably dim. In order to change to the LED bulbs what else did you have to do other than just install the new bulbs themselves? Were you able to power them off the printed circuit board or did you have to run a new circuit for them? Thanks DaveG.
The LED bulbs I used were just a plug and play with the old circuit board. The website in my post above has a cross over chart. I switched everything on the interior - dash, heater, shifter and courtesy lights.
Here is the page for the Gold Stars I used these everywhere in the interior that a 194 bulb was originally.
The other lights were just crossed over from the original bulb number. I do remember that I first ordered ones that were too tall for the under dash courtesy lights (stuck out of the bracket and i didn't like the look) so I ordered shorter ones that worked out.
Just got a package of 10 bulbs very similar to these off ebay for $6.99 and I can't believe how much better the gauges look. I can actually see my speedometer at night now.
Just got a set of 10 off ebay for $6.99 including freight. Look just like the Goldstar and probably are since almost everything electronic these days comes from China and then gets a huge mark-up. They work great. Seller name was cenn2010 and item description was "10X T10 194 168 W5W 1.5W LED SMD Bright White High power 1.5W LED Bulb Light HID".
