Hi everyone, been a while since I posted up as I have been away in Taiwan doing some work. I picked up a bunch of parts and the car will be going up on stands in a month or two to pull the suspension and rear axel off to rebuild and update it all.
Currently I am trying to fix my hood latch issue and I have some questions. As I drive around my hood pops up and the safety latch catches it and keeps it from flying up luckily. The actuall lock down latch is broken and I can just push it up and down by hand, it seems like its stripped out. I would like to replace it.
After reading the hood FAQ's I am not sure what I exactly have. It looks like i might have a 68 hood (hood catch is welded in) but 67 latch mechanism. It also looks like someone has cut and bent the hood catch to make it work, or possibly its just wear and tear. I need to replace the hood mechanism but not sure exactly what I have so I am posting up some pictures.
Please give me advice and opinions on the pictures. I have also looked around many sites but can only find the latch and support for like $200+. I am looking for just the latch if possible. What do you guys think? HOOD CATCH:
That is definetly a '68-9 hood that someone butchered.
That is not from wear and tear!
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. HHHMMMMMM Thats kind of what I figured. What do you suggest on fixing it? I was thinking of taking a torch and heating it and trying to make it look a bit better, then replacing the hood latch with a functioning one.
Ok, so I e-mailed that guy about rebuilding the latch but havent gotten anything back (its only been a day). I am trying to find a new/used 67 latch anywhere but I cant. NO ONE seems to make them, its amazing. There are plenty that say 67-69 but when you look at them they are actually 68+ latches. Very frustrating.
Ok, just e-mailed that craig guy about doing a rebuild because there doesnt seem to be any new or used 67 latches anywhere I have looked. Will let you know what he says.
