The previous owner installed a tranny cooler which sits in the front of my radiator on the passenger side and an electric fan in the front driver's side of the radiator. My car runs hot, think I should move the tranny cooler and/or fan by relocating the tranny cooler somewhere and centering the fan. If so, where should I mount the tranny cooler?
i agree with gus68, it should be in front of the rad, with that said, the fan is out of the picture @ or above 30MPH ,period. If you take a car start it up with NO fan, head right for the hiway and drive 60MPH it will run fine. the fan only comes into play at slow speeds or stopped.
if you want to stick w electric fan..it could be too small...but electric fans should be BEHIND the radiator...in front they actually block air from going thru, but I`ve had a couple of friends here with 'hot' cars, hopped up etc...they went from 1 single electric fan to 4 smaller, think 2 were 11 inch ,2 were 5 inch ,or something like that ...that set up COOLS! its basically covering the entire radiator and are shrouded in so all air goes thru fans , not any other part,.
One (obviously too small) fan on front isn't going to cut it. The factory got it right with the shroud and the clutch or flex fan. If you have to go electric, you need a big one (or two or four)in back with a shroud to pull air through the entire radiator.
