Heard about it on the way to work this morning. I hope none of our Colorado members were involved. It sickens me that things like this happen. I wonder how many people applied for a concealed weapons permit or bought guns today.

Agreed SethMast. One of the most nerve-wracking days of my life was a CCW qualifying class. Every safety rule was grossly violated, which kept the instructors frustrated to no end. Unfortunately, there were no requirements for common sense, just sit through the class room, pass the state test, and put 5 rounds on paper. Man, was I naive.

Even these minimal requirements have been waived here in AZ, as no CCW permit is required anymore.

I guess we will never know if a few people with concealed weapons could have saved some of those lives. What we do know is that the movie goers were fish in a barrel. Colorado is a concealed carry state but that theater chain forbids legal carry.

Maybe if 71-year-old Samuel Williams had been in that theater and did what he did in an interet cafe last week.... See:

Here ya go, say 1 CCW movie goer with a gun is a good enough shoot to hit the Bad guy..... Then cops show up to a shooting incident and see movie goer with a gun... Now what happens...... I would feel for the cop in that situation....

I'm willing to bet that there are far more people carrying firearms thinking they are Clint Eastwood than those who actually know what they are doing.

Evidently some of the folks here did not see the video of the senior citizen here in FL who happen to be sitting in a internet cafe when two thugs came barreling in (one with a bat and one with a gun). The old man sprung into action and shot both of the thugs several times catching them completely off guard and protecting everyone in the place from the two POS thugs. Both of which were apprehended.

The only sad part to this story is that the old man didn't have good enough aim and unfortunately did not kill either of the two thugs nor was he charged with anything! Had he killed the two moving targets he would have been given the key to the city and a free lifetime membership to the internet cafe where this all took place!

Train EVERYONE and give EVERYONE who wants one a gun! Shoot to kill & let God deal with them on the back end!

Oh yeah, and for those of you who don't believe in gun ownership, when all hell breaks loose in your neighborhood, you'll change your mind real quick on that whole gun thing if it isn't too late trust me. Pray to God there doesn't come a day when you wish you had a gun on your person because if that day comes, there is nothing worse than the feeling of not being able to protect yourself or your family from SERIOUS harm! Think about...

Not against gun ownership only against people who think they can be Clint Eastwood without constant training.. Remember a bad guy doesn't have to be accountable for his shots, but you do.
I carry a gun for a living..... You have no idea of what it feels like to have to make a judgement in seconds that can cost you or people around you everything.

Earlybird..... Try having the feeling of shooting someone, after you made a wrong decision. A co-worker of mine was killed by a cop who thought he was a bad guy. Another lost his son, because he got involved in a shootout at a McDonalds with a robber when a stray round hit his son in the head because the boy stopped at the door to watch his dad.

I'm just saying it's not always as easy as pulling the trigger. The hard sets part isn't the shooting skills, its all the decision made in those seconds before you pull the trigger and I know the majority of civilians don't have the training or the proper decision making skills to warrant carrying firearms in order to respond to these types of situations.

I do agree though that you can't use events like this for gun control. I'm just more for if a person wants to carry a gun, I'm for constant training and qualifying. If law enforcement has to do it, I think it would be a good idea for any gun carrying person to have to do it.

Much like buying your first guitar this morning, and expecting to jam onstage tonite. Proficiency at anything takes an enormous investment of time in training and practice.

do you by chance remember the shooting about 15-18 years ago in houston? a Scot was shot in a guuys back yard ,4 am as he was running around drunk trying to get people to wake up, as he thought he was being robbed by girls he was sharing a cab with? he was shot in our neighbor hood...and all over Europe people were complaing about the "cowboy" mentality of the US, saying it would never happen there as they forbid citizens to have guns...
that went on for about 6 months...then it got quiet....the quiet was because some guy in Scotland ran in to a school and shot about 15 kids with a gun (which he wasnt allowed to have)....so yes,Laws against guns doenst stop people from being shot....they will onl;y be shot by illegal guns.

Funny you say that.. There's no evidence the shooter had any training whatsoever. The training school he applied for turned him down. One person goes crazy out of a country of over three hundred million and we're supposed to abolish our 2nd Amendment rights now? Believe me, if there were no such thing as guns, this guy would've built a suicide vest. It seems he had the smarts to do it had he no other options.

absolutely correct....imo you should actually have to take training classes to have a gun , just like driving a car....but that goes against the amendment which says its a right (to bear arms)...but driving isnt a right ,its a priviledge...

having been in the military I received training on many dfferent weapons

I am a gun owner. Currently have around 30 or so. Many are SEMIautomatic. I don't own any of what are called assault weapons but all or most of my semiautos would be be banned under the proposed laws. What a crock of sh!t. I have a 22 semiauto rifle that I use to shoot racoons and foxes that are trying to kill my chickens. Many times they have died from the second, third, or even fourth shot. The gun control lobby think this type of weapon should be banned.

Also the news is now reporting the the "assault rifle" jammed and most of the shooting was done with the other weapons he carried. One of which, the Remington 870 (I own 2 of them) are pump action.

My take is that if a person is in a mindset to kill lots of people the type of weapons he has access to will not matter. Ban semiauto guns and they will carry multiple manual ones. Ban all guns and they will use a bomb of some sort. You can't legislate away the psycotic intent of the criminally insane.

I'll keep my weapons thank you.

Oh yea. I even have a couple clips for my 9mm that hold more than 5 rounds cause I am not sure how steady my hands would be in the event that I have to defend my home.

An Aurora-size massacre occurs EVERY 10 days in the City of Chicago. But there are no flags at half staff, 24/7 national media coverage, national outrage, or Presidential visits.

No, the gun-grabbers cannot explain away their oppressive gun laws there with the inverse relationship of their oppressive and unconstitutional firearms laws to gun deaths. It might start an objective discussion of the real reasons for the deaths. It might even splatter some dirt on Chicago politicians in high places in the nation.

Chicago is the poster child for the old "When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" motto.
